BIOGRAPHY

Asen Tanchev is one of the most exciting pianists of tomorrow. At just 15 years of age he is the winner and two-time special-prize winner of the International „Tchaikovsky“ Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow, where he was lauded from the jury and the critics for his glittering virtuosity, coupled with infectious love for the music. Besides that he won the 1st prize, the Sofia Philharmonics prize and the prize for the best performance of a work by Dimitar Nenov at the International Competition „Young Virtuosos“, Sofia. Furthermore he is a prizewinner of the Premio Internazionale Pianistico „A. Scriabin“ in Grosseto and the Concours International de Piano S.A.R.“ la Princesse Lalla Meryem“ in Rabat. At the German Music Competition he is a two-time laureate – 2013 as duo violin and piano and 2017 as soloist, to that also a two-time special-prize winner and was therefore included in the performing list for young musicians of the German Music Council.

Asen Tanchev captivates the audience with his warm and intimate sound and temperamental presence in prestigious concert halls, such as Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Berlin Philharmonics, Northern German Broadcasting, Hanover, Liederhalle Stuttgart; Bulgaria Hall, Sofia, Auditorio Nacional de Música, Madrid. The young pianist guests succesfully with Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Lüneburg Symphonics, Sinfonietta Darmstadt, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Grosseto Symphony Orchestra, Classic FM Radio Orchestra Sofia.

Asen is also an avid chamber musician, performing in various formations from duo up to nonet at renowned festivals, among which Oberstdorfer Musiksommer, Franconian Music Days Alzenau, „V. Spivakov“ International Music Festival, Moscow, International Chamber Music Festival „Musica Mundi“,Belgum, „Apollonia“ Festival of Arts, Sozopol, Sofia Music Weeks.

His pianistic diversity also stands out in contemporary music, which Tanchev interprets with soul and musical finesse up to the smallest detail. He presented with fire and inspiration works by the british-french-israeli composer Nimrod Borenstein at the „Evmelia“ International Music Festival Volos and at the Summer Music Days Hitzacker he premiered with great success works by young composers from Greece, Switzerland and Israel.

A native Bulgarian comming from an artistic family in Sofia, Asen recently completed his master class studies with honors under the tutelage of Prof. Gerald Fauth at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig. Before that, Asen completed his bachelor's and master's piano studies with honors at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hannover in the class of Prof. Arie Vardi. He also completed a master's degree in chamber music there in the class of Prof. Markus Becker and Prof. Oliver Wille. He is currently studying Master Chamber Music Ensemble with Artemis Quartet at the Berlin University of Arts and before that in the class of Prof. Dirk Mommertz, Prof. Eberhard Feltz and Priya Mitchell at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.

Asen Tanchev is a long-standing scholar of one of the most renowned foundations in Germany – The Foundation of the German People and also of the PE-Förderungen für Studierende der Musik e. V., Mannheim. As of 2018 he is a scholar of the „Elfrun Gabriel Foundation“, Leipzig, in conjucton with the Deutschlandstipendium.
